New Yorkers like to state the obvious. We get tremendous satisfaction from being right, and saying something obvious is a good way to be sure no one is going to challenge you. I was once in a bar, when a friend tried to identify the song being played. None of us knew, and the people over at the next few couches didn't know either. We all felt our pretentious east village cred fading away. The next song was by the Ramones. At least a half dozen people came over to my friend to eagerly tell him that this song was by the Ramones. One of them probably felt the urge to tag this construction site.
